In the first article of this series, we introduced the SP-CHANGE Matrix—a framework that maps every change onto nine cells, defined by three levels of persistence (Identity, Body/Mass, Roles/Configuration) and three modes of variation (Spatial, Quantitative, Qualitative). That matrix gives us a common language for describing what is shifting and what remains stable.

But change rarely happens in a single cell. Real transformations—whether in a person’s career, an organization’s restructuring, or a team’s evolution—tend to activate several dimensions at once. Some combinations appear so often that they become archetypal patterns. Recognizing which pattern you are in is the first step toward navigating it wisely.

Below are the twelve most significant combinations, each assigned a letter (A through L) for easy reference. Each description includes the cells involved, the underlying logic, and a typical context. Afterward, we explore how one pattern can evolve into another—the natural “movements” that transform a situation over time.
